Academic Course
During your social service with us, you will participate in a monthly diploma course in Global Health and Social Medicine. This course will deepen your understanding of the social determinants of health and equip you with the tools to work in diverse contexts, serving populations affected by inequities in access to health services and other priority social conditions.

Clinical Mentoring
Specialists in Nursing, Midwifery and Obstetrics provide direct supervision to interns, supporting them in managing complex cases and strengthening their practical skills. In addition, supervisors facilitate integration into the healthcare system, creating a collaborative learning environment. Resident physicians and volunteer specialists from different parts of the world also accompany the interns to analyze clinical cases and enrich their knowledge in diagnosis and treatment.
Empowering Practice
The activities take place at the Basic Community Hospital and the attached Maternity Home, located in the municipality of Ángel Albino Corzo, Chiapas. Every interaction with patients becomes a valuable learning opportunity. During your social service, you will put your knowledge into practice by assuming an active role in obstetric care, which includes prenatal consultations, obstetric emergency care, accompaniment during delivery, postpartum care, newborn care and family planning counseling, among other key responsibilities.

About the Site
Ángel Albino Corzo is located approximately 3 hours from Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The region in general is a coffee-growing area, has a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants and is a reference center for 5 different municipalities. There are several modes of public transportation to Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The houses are usually simple, with basic services. There is access to cellular telephony, internet and there is a bank.
Housing and food
There are several lodging options, you can get rents between $1000-2000 MXN per month. There is a supermarket where you can get basic products. During the monthly course we offer meals. There is diversity in food at affordable prices, $30-50 pesos per meal.
Health
The main infectious diseases to be aware of in the area are mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika. We recommend protection through the use of mosquito nets for sleeping, insect repellent during the day and appropriate clothing (pants and long-sleeved shirts). Other infectious diseases are decreasing or are well controlled. For example, onchocerciasis has been eradicated and malaria is rare.
Climate
The climate in the region is hot and humid. The temperature ranges between 18 and 34°C. The rainy season starts in May and ends in October. The rains are sometimes very heavy, which prevents outdoor activities.
